Absolutely no one has tackled Girru? No one? How disappointing.
Girru has about the coolest power sphere.
Well, okay, "light" kinda ruins it. "What is Relia saying?!" you ask. "Isn't light the easier, more realistically-based element?" Well, you're right. It is. That's why it's less fun to work with. Now, granted, I do have many characters with elements based in either light or darkness. But this does not make the element any cooler to work with. Not not not. Trust me on this one. Given, light can be a very useful element, and fun, if you know how to adapt it.
But come on, how many light beams have I seen? Light that hurts you or blinds you. (I know, because I've used it.) If you're looking to expand on light as part of the element, find something new to do with it, something it inherently does, or some heretofore unexplored aspect of it.
Most importantly, STAY OUT of the realm of Shamash. Shamash is The Sun. Girru is not. Be sure to remember this when considering Girru's abilities. Further bear in mind that Girru's abilities should have little to do with the sun at all--and really shouldn't be affected by it. The Sun is highly associative with nature and life, and therefore has strong links with the primals--but hey, Girru is an Astral. The Atlanteans make their own way. They have survived by getting around nature and using magic. So my suggestion is that any associations you're making between light and the sun in your character's powers--kill 'em. Better to leave any associations between your Girru and nature /out/. Better to make it obvious what sets the astrals and the primals apart. This will also help you avoid overlaps. Further, it will help you bear in mind connections to Girru's other element.
Girru has /two/ elements, you know.
And this is where the real coolness comes in. Civilization is a super-intriguing power sphere. DON'T shirk away from it. In a perfectly Relia world, everyone would do exactly as I wished. And all applicants would focus on the "civilization" element.
Now is a good time to point out that civilization as an element is DIRECTLY related to the idea of Atlantis. Atlanteans believe that they are the hub of civilization, and by definition, they are. They are the most technologically advanced and organized of all societies going. If you haven't looked up "civilization" in your dictionary, I'm providing the definition for your as viewable directly below. Pay close attention.
civ·i·li·za·tion
n.
1.An advanced state of intellectual, cultural, and material development in human society, marked by progress in the arts and sciences, the extensive use of writing, and the appearance of complex political and social institutions.
2.The type of culture and society developed by a particular nation or region or in a particular epoch: Mayan civilization; the civilization of ancient Rome.
3.The act or process of civilizing or reaching a civilized state.
4.Cultural or intellectual refinement; good taste.
5.Modern society with its conveniences: returned to civilization after camping in the mountains.
Definition 2 notwithstanding, the term "civilization" is exactly what Altantis is, compared to all other societies existing at the time in which Genesis is set. Atlantis is IT. Now, bearing this in mind, civilization becomes even more interesting to work with. You've got someone whose very ELEMENT makes him or her hardcore Atlantean, compunded by the nature of Girru's other element, light. It is amazingly cool how wonderfully these elements work together, particularly when considering the ability of light to illuminate, clarify, and bring objects out of obscurity. Isn't it just amazing that the people of the Atlantean civilization refer to themselves as the Enlightened Ones? Coincidence?
I think not.
And, frankly, you'd be a fool not to take advantage of it.
So when I say, "Absolutely no one has tackled Girru? How disappointing.," you should know how disappointing that is. And when I say that Girru has about the coolest power sphere, you'll know I mean it. And when we'r in my perfect world some day, and I tell you that you'd better consider Girru, you will damn well do it.
