Welcome to seiryuu dot org, a gaming community and discussion site.
Seiryuu has existed in one form or another since 1999, and today we are a free web and forum hosting solution for a myriad of fine entertainment enterprises, such as the wikistyle SMF and the forum-play Silvermoon. We also serve as conduit for thoughtful and provoking discussions on classical history, renaissance literature, astronomical physics, tax law, World of Warcraft, and various flavors of fanfic. Plus, there's the gallery, the arcade, and shiny active chat.
This is not, however, a multi-genre RP board. It's a community service that hosts many individual games that are all autonomous in their own rights; they have different themes, different owners, and different procedures. If you would like hosting on Seiryuu, please see Cal.

Seiryuu is entirely too old and too behind to really be comfortably upgraded (I don't think the kernel's been updated for at least five years, for example, and you may or may not have noticed that the forum's a handful of versions back), so Suboshi and I are going to be building an entirely new machine and setting it up specifically as a web server, not as our personal linuxbox that just happens to run apache. This means security will be much better, and there will be way fewer times that we get ddosed into shutting down the network services (yay!). What this means: - Accounts will not be automatically reinstated, because frankly jesus there are a lot and I am not entirely sure I know who most of these people are. When the server is up, if you are still interested in webspace come see me and I'll get things set up for you. YOU WILL NEED TO BACK UP YOUR SHIT ON YOUR OWN BEFORE FEB 14.
- If you do want an account, fair warning that we will not have the space to be a fileserver. The new harddrive is much faster, but also smaller. So while I'm sure your 30GB personal music backups are very awesome, there will not be space.
 - We will no longer be providing an @seiryuu.org email address. With the way spambots work now, maintaining email security is a fulltime job all on its own and I seriously do not have the time to do it. It suuuuuuuuuuucks, and I'm really sorry, but until people stop trying to use Seiryuu to relay their \/|4gr4 ads there is exactly dick I can do about it. If you need a gmail invite, I can totes help you with that.
- Security will remain SSH and SFTP only, which really shouldn't be a problem; I think it's already been that way for awhile.
Hopefully a month's lead time won't cause, like, MASS HYSTERIA, but we'll see what happens. The spring cleaning will make everything way more awesome, I superpromise.

12:19:40 by Cal Views: 3227 | Comments: 0 I've moved over pertinent posts (basically exclusively applications, unless there was something in info/plotages that seemed necessary to keep) from oldforum v2 for those games whose maintainers are MIA. Thus the million new posts you will get today posted by me. Reflection and Arcadia have not been moved, because Laris and Relia have flagged them as active so I'm waiting for them to grab the posts themselves (I would probably not grab the right ones). Is there anything we're still missing (other than Lyko and An Ape? ;_;). Is everything working out okay? Do we like it? PS HAY ADVERTISE. I miss new people. Remember Marisha? Man, that was epic. Let's do that again, only with less crazy!

Experiment failed; I got it, we're cool. With that being said, there will still be a portal and a gallery (notice, if you will, how the forum is Seiryuu's front page), they'll just be SMF-specific mods -- hopefully that will solve the crappy problems we had with registration emails and captcha shit not showing up and blah blah blah blah. I'm also installing a couple of mods to try and make it easier for guests/new people to get involved without provoking the wrath of pr0nbots; we'll see how that works. Right now, old posts are gone. It was three years of garbage. Yes, you have to re-register. SORRY! The old forum is still (and will still be) up at http://www.seiryuu.org/forums/. I've learned my lesson, I'm not getting rid of it. I'm not completely retarded.
